Typical components that require a high level of protection are compressor trains, with ambient temperature gas input and cryogenic fluid transfer at the end of the process. These compressor trains can cost millions of dollars, thus any backflow causing reverse rotation and possible damage must be minimised to permit error-free operation of the system.
Check valve protection performance needs to be as reliable as the Cold Boxes served. Systems are often kept at the Cryogenic temperature for long periods, both, for readiness to operate and to prevent warming/cooling stresses. Fluctuation in temperature can cause premature replacement of otherwise good pipes, valves and equipment.
